Summary

A rare case of bilateral posterior shoulder dislocation in a sauna led to complex fractures. Surgical intervention required bilateral shoulder prosthesis due to severe joint damage.

Background:

  • A 52-year-old male presented with bilateral shoulder pain after a sauna incident.
  • The patient had a history of benign meningioma surgery.
  • Initial presentation included confusion and bilateral posterior shoulder dislocation without apparent fractures on X-ray.

Observation:

  • Initial radiography revealed bilateral posterior shoulder dislocations without evident fractures.
  • Closed reduction attempts for the dislocations were unsuccessful.

Findings:

  • Intraoperative findings demonstrated bilateral shoulder fractures with significant destruction of the humeral head.
  • Osteosynthesis was not feasible, leading to the decision for bilateral shoulder arthroplasty.
