Abstract:
In today's NHS, questions are increasingly being asked about the value for money, cost, cost-effectiveness and quality of care that are offered to patients. While a number of these measures are concerned with the cost of the service, it must be recognised that in the NHS, where funding is obtained from central government, any new service has the potential for running away with money and that questions will be asked about the benefit of that service. Indeed, when estimates of the cost of wound care are around £950 million a year, the government should ask these questions, and we should be in a position to respond.
