Purpose of the Study:

  • Highlight the spectrum of 3D endosurgery in pediatric patients.
  • Evaluate the indications and applicability of 3D laparoscopy.
  • Assess the effectiveness of 3D laparoscopic surgery in children.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 110 pediatric endosurgical procedures (January 2014 - May 2015).
  • Procedures included: inguinal herniorrhaphy (IH), Nissen fundoplication (NF), pyeloureteral anastomosis (PUA), nephrectomy (NE), and ovarian cystectomy (OC).
  • Comparison of 3D laparoscopic outcomes with standard two-dimensional (2D) laparoscopy for IH, NF, and PUA groups.

Main Results:

  • Demographics and preoperative parameters were similar between 3D and 2D groups.
  • 3D laparoscopy significantly reduced operative time for NF (37.95 vs. 48.42 min) and PUA (61.31 vs. 78.75 min).
  • No significant difference in operative time for IH (15.88 vs. 15.57 min); postoperative outcomes (hospital stay, complications) were equivalent.

Conclusions:

  • 3D laparoscopy is successful for various pediatric conditions including hernias, reflux, and hydronephrosis.
  • 3D laparoscopy shortens operative duration for complex procedures involving sutures.
  • Enhanced depth perception and tactile feedback in 3D laparoscopy improve surgical acceptability.
