Background:

  • Progressive Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a rare, fatal demyelinating disease caused by JC virus reactivation in immunosuppressed individuals.
  • Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome (IRIS) is an inflammatory response that occurs as the immune system recovers.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a unique case of PML complicated by IRIS in an HIV-negative patient.
  • To discuss the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and management of this rare complication.

Main Methods:

  • Case report of a 35-year-old male presenting with neurological deficits.
  • Diagnostic workup including neuroimaging and clinical assessment.
  • Review of literature on PML and IRIS secondary to Rituximab therapy.
