Ophthalmological findings in children with encephalitis

• Only 3 out of 36 children (8.3%) showed ophthalmological abnormalities linked to encephalitis.

• These symptoms, associated with specific encephalitis types like herpes simplex 1 and N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor antibody encephalitis, resolved over time.

Implications:

• Ophthalmological abnormalities are infrequent in childhood encephalitis.
• Routine ophthalmological screening may not be cost-effective for all encephalitis cases.
