Nasal IgE detection is not exclusive to allergic rhinitis, appearing in non-allergic rhinitis and healthy individuals. This suggests a non-specific immune response rather than localized allergy.

Conclusions:

  • Presence of nasal IgE against allergens appears to be a non-specific phenomenon.
  • Nasal IgE can be detected in nonallergic rhinitis and healthy subjects.
  • Nasal IgE production may represent a spontaneous immune response.
