Dual mobility cups, developed in the 1970s, significantly reduce dislocation risk in total hip arthroplasty (THA). Modern designs achieve excellent outcomes with low dislocation rates over ten years.

- Sir John Charnley's low friction arthroplasty (since 1962) offered good long-term results but dislocation remained a significant complication.
