Summary

Blindness from cosmetic injections is a severe risk. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) showed potential in restoring vision for a patient with retinal artery occlusion, suggesting a new treatment avenue.

  • To investigate the potential efficacy of HBOT in treating central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) following filler injections.
  • To highlight the role of the cilioretinal artery in preserving retinal tissue during CRAO.

Main Methods:

  • A patient with central retinal vein occlusion and cilioretinal artery occlusion post-injection was treated with HBOT.
  • Treatment involved daily 2-hour sessions at 253 kPa for 14 days.

Main Results:

  • The patient treated with HBOT experienced a return to normal visual acuity.
  • Cilioretinal artery presence, found in 36.2% of individuals, may influence treatment outcomes in CRAO.

Conclusions:
