Background:

  • Accurate mortality assessment is crucial for understanding disease burden and guiding clinical management in SSc.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine the mortality rates and primary causes of death in a multinational inception cohort of patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc).
  • To compare mortality data between an inception cohort and a prevalent cohort of SSc patients.
  • To identify predictors of early mortality in systemic sclerosis.

Main Methods:

  • Quantified mortality using standardized mortality ratio (SMR), years of life lost, and percentage mortality.
  • Established an inception cohort (recruited within 4 years of onset) and a prevalent cohort (any disease duration).
