Summary

Laparoscopic ligation and resection successfully treated a rare left gastric artery aneurysm (LGAA). This minimally invasive approach offers a new option for managing this potentially life-threatening condition.

Background:

  • Visceral artery aneurysms (VAAs) are rare, affecting 0.1-2% of the population.
  • Left gastric artery aneurysms (LGAAs) are exceptionally rare, comprising less than 4% of all VAAs.
  • Limited literature exists on LGAA treatment, with embolization being the primary discussed method.

Observation:

  • A 68-year-old male presented with a left gastric artery aneurysm.
  • Previous successful treatments for LGAA via laparoscopy have not been documented.
  • The patient's LGAA was treated using laparoscopic ligation and resection.

Findings:

  • Successful laparoscopic ligation and resection of a left gastric artery aneurysm was achieved.
  • This case represents the first described successful laparoscopic repair of an LGAA.
  • The procedure was performed on a 68-year-old male patient.

Implications:

  • Laparoscopic ligation and resection is a viable treatment option for LGAA.
  • This minimally invasive technique may reduce patient recovery time and complications.
  • Further research into laparoscopic approaches for rare VAAs is warranted.
