Endomandibular acinic cell carcinoma.

Background:

Acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is a malignant epithelial neoplasm that typically arises in the salivary glands.
Endomandibular ACC, originating within the jawbone, is exceptionally rare, posing diagnostic challenges.
Understanding the origin of ACC in non-salivary locations is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Observation:

A case report details a 79-year-old female with an endomandibular tumor.
Radiological imaging showed an osteolytic lesion in the mandible, extending from the molar region to the ascending ramus.
Histopathological examination revealed features consistent with ACC, including epithelial cells with granular cytoplasm in nests and microcystic spaces.

Findings:

The endomandibular tumor was located within a mandibular cavity without apparent bone infiltration.
Histology confirmed acinic cell carcinoma morphology.
No concurrent salivary gland lesion was identified, suggesting an origin from ectopic salivary tissue within the mandible.

Implications:

This case highlights the possibility of ACC arising from ectopic salivary gland tissue within the jawbone.
It underscores the importance of considering rare origins for tumors presenting in unusual locations.
Further research into ectopic salivary tissues may elucidate the pathogenesis of such rare mandibular neoplasms.
