    Background:

    • Chronic renal failure (CRF) can lead to multi-organ dysfunction.
    • The auditory and vestibular systems are susceptible to damage in CRF.
    • Understanding vestibular involvement in CRF is crucial for patient care.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate vestibular function in patients with chronic renal failure.
    • To identify potential etiological factors for vestibular dysfunction in CRF.

    Main Methods:

    • Vestibular function tests, including electronystagmography (ENG), were performed.
    • Twelve patients with CRF of various causes, managed conservatively, were included.

    Main Results:

    • Only 33% of CRF patients exhibited normal ENG results.
    • Canal paresis was observed in 58% of patients.
    • A hyperactive vestibular response was noted in 8% of patients.

    Conclusions:

    • Vestibular dysfunction is common in patients with chronic renal failure.
    • Ototoxic medications, such as furosemide, are strongly implicated in the etiology of vestibular dysfunction in CRF.
