Tanning-bed lentigines: ultrastructural and histopathologic features.

Summary

Unusual melanocytic lesions can develop after UVA tanning bed exposure. These lesions resemble lentigines seen after photochemotherapy and may show mild cellular atypia.

Background:

Recent reports suggest a link between UVA tanning bed use and unusual melanocytic lesions.
Understanding these lesions is crucial for dermatological diagnosis and patient counseling.

Observation:

A case study investigated melanocytic lesions that developed post-UVA tanning bed exposure.
Light and electron microscopy were employed for detailed analysis.

Findings:

The observed lesions exhibited histological similarities to lentigines typically induced by psoralen photochemotherapy.
Mild nuclear atypia was noted in some melanocytes.
