  • Social media discussions were dominated by pro-e-cigarette content (531 tweets), with a substantial neutral presence (596 tweets) and fewer anti-e-cigarette tweets (392 tweets).
  • Social media topics (747 tweets) significantly outnumbered health-related topics (182 tweets).
  • Health-focused tweets were predominantly anti-e-cigarette, while social-focused tweets were largely pro-e-cigarette.

Conclusions:

  • Twitter discussions on secondhand vaping are primarily social and pro-e-cigarette, though anti-e-cigarette and health-related discussions are present.
  • Public health and regulatory bodies can leverage social and traditional media to communicate the potential harms of e-cigarette aerosol.
  • Understanding prevalent social media topics and opinions is crucial for developing effective public health education campaigns on e-cigarette risks.
