Bladder transplantation in rats is a viable procedure, showing good structural and functional regeneration. These findings suggest potential roles for vascular growth and neurogenesis in transplanted bladder survival.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate bladder function using cystometry after autotransplant and isogeneic transplant in female rats.
  • To assess the structural integrity and regenerative capacity of transplanted bladders.

Main Methods:

  • Two groups of female rats underwent either autotransplant or isogeneic bladder transplant.
  • Cystometric evaluations were performed at 30 and 60 days post-transplant.
  • Histological analysis was conducted to assess tissue preservation and regeneration.

Main Results:

  • Transplanted bladders demonstrated preserved filling, storage, and emptying functions at 30 and 60 days.
  • Good revascularization and tissue preservation were observed macroscopically.
  • No significant differences in micturition pressure were noted between T2-T3 subgroups, but differences existed between other groups. Micturition intervals and durations showed variations between specific subgroups.

Conclusions:

  • Bladder transplantation is a viable surgical procedure.
  • Evidence of structural and functional regeneration in transplanted bladders was observed.
  • Vascular endothelium growth and neurogenesis factors may play a role in the survival of transplanted bladders.
