A Developmental Investigation of Verbalization in Observational Learning
1a Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences , Louisiana State University Medical Center , USA.
Abstract:
This study was a developmental investigation of verbalization on the reproduction of televised modeled responses. Boys and girls of three age levels (4-5, 6-7, 8-9) were exposed to a televised model under one of the three conditions: S verbalization, E verbalization/S verbalization, and passive observation control. Older children reproduced more responses than did younger children. Contrary to prediction, the verbalization conditions were not found to promote observational learning relative to the control condition for the younger children. The results were discussed in terms of the rehearsal strategies employed by children of different ages.

Observational Learning
Steps in the Modeling Process
Attention is the first necessary component for observational learning. It involves focusing on what the model is doing and saying. For example, if you decide to take a drawing class to enhance your skills, you need to pay close attention to the instructor's words and hand movements. The characteristics of the model significantly...
