Summary

A stroke education program significantly improved Korean adolescents' knowledge of stroke risk factors and symptoms. This school-based intervention is crucial for early prevention and reducing unhealthy behaviors in young adults.

Background:

Public awareness is vital for stroke prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
Young adults are a key demographic for increasing stroke awareness and preventing risk-increasing behaviors.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the baseline knowledge of stroke among Korean adolescents.
To evaluate the effectiveness of a stroke education lecture in improving this knowledge.

Main Methods:

A total of 1269 high school students received education on stroke.
Knowledge was assessed using a questionnaire before (Pre-E), immediately after (Post-E1), and 2 weeks after (Post-E2) the lecture.
Analysis included comparing scores based on attention paid during the lecture.

Main Results:

Overall stroke knowledge significantly improved after the educational session (p < 0.001).
Mean scores on stroke risk factors increased from 3.97 (Pre-E) to 5.28 (Post-E1) and 5.10 (Post-E2).
Students who paid attention scored higher, showing significant improvements (4.29 Pre-E, 6.32 Post-E1, 6.40 Post-E2).

Conclusions:

Integrating stroke education into school curricula can enhance adolescent knowledge.
Such programs are critical for reducing stroke risk behaviors in young populations.
Further development of engaging educational methods is needed to improve student concentration.
