Platelets protect lung from injury induced by systemic inflammatory response

Platelet transfusions significantly reduced lung injury and improved lung function in mice experiencing systemic inflammation from extracorporeal circulation. Platelets protected lungs by modulating inflammatory markers and forming aggregates.
