Patient-centered Care01:13

Patient-centered Care

3.2K
Patient-centered care involves delivering care beyond inpatient hospitalization. Reflective practice can enhance a patient-centered approach. Reflective practice is a process of reasoning that considers all aspects of the present situation, including practicalities, learning from personal practice, and consideration of patient needs. Patients appreciate care decisions made while considering their input. Involving the patient in their care provides the patient with a sense of contribution rather...

Imaging Studies III: Gastrointestinal Motility Studies and Virtual Colonoscopy

552
This lesson explores three gastrointestinal imaging techniques: radionuclide testing, colonic transit studies, and virtual colonoscopy.
Radionuclide Testing
Radionuclide testing is a sophisticated medical technique for assessing gastrointestinal motility. It focuses on gastric emptying and colonic transit time. Radioactive markers track the movement of food through the digestive system, providing insights into gastrointestinal disorders.
In gastric emptying studies, a meal's liquid and...

Intrauterine Drug Delivery Systems01:21

Intrauterine Drug Delivery Systems

69
Controlled-release systems for intravaginal and intrauterine drug delivery have been developed primarily for the administration of contraceptive steroid hormones. These delivery routes circumvent first-pass hepatic metabolism, thereby enhancing bioavailability and allowing for reduced systemic dosages compared to oral administration. Such approaches contribute to improved therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance, particularly in long-term contraceptive regimens.Intravaginal Drug Delivery...

Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System01:26

Methods Of Healthcare Delivery System

4.2K
At the different levels of the healthcare system, we see varying methods of healthcare used. These methods include managed care systems, case management, and primary healthcare.
Managed Care System:
The managed care system is designed to control the cost while maintaining the quality of care. The patient's care from admission to discharge is planned by the primary care provider or the case manager, also known as the gatekeeper. In a managed care system, the number of care providers is...

Current Trends in Nursing II

3.6K
Trends in nursing are multifactorial and associated with changes in society, within the nursing profession, and in other professions. Notably, telehealth and remote nursing contribute to successful healthcare delivery for numerous patients and help reduce stress for nurses due to nursing shortages. Nurses can reach patients, monitor their conditions, and interact with them using computers, audio, visual accessories, and telephones—for example, remote patient monitoring systems. Likewise,...

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:

Summary

Obstetric patients using virtual care reported higher satisfaction than those in traditional care settings. This virtual care model may be a viable alternative for expectant mothers seeking convenient antenatal visits.

Area of Science:

  • Healthcare research
  • Patient satisfaction studies
  • Telemedicine in obstetrics

Background:

  • Patient satisfaction is increasingly important in US healthcare.
  • New care modalities like virtual care are emerging.
  • Virtual care integrates technology into patient consultations.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare patient satisfaction between virtual and traditional antenatal care models.
  • To evaluate satisfaction in obstetric patients receiving one-third of visits via videoconference versus in-clinic visits.
  • To identify factors influencing the selection of virtual care in obstetrics.

Main Methods:

  • Developed a four-domain satisfaction questionnaire.
  • Surveyed 378 virtual-care and 795 traditional-care obstetric patients (Jan 2013-June 2015).
  • Employed statistical analyses including chi-squared tests, t-tests, logistic regression, and ANOVA.

Main Results:

  • Overall satisfaction was significantly higher in the virtual-care cohort (4.76 vs. 4.47; p < .001).
  • Parity of one or more was the only significant demographic factor for virtual care selection (OR = 2.4).
  • Technology used in virtual care did not significantly impact patient satisfaction.

Conclusions:

  • Both virtual and traditional care models resulted in high patient satisfaction.
  • The virtual care model demonstrated higher mean satisfaction scores.
  • Virtual care may serve as a suitable alternative to traditional antenatal care, particularly for multiparous women.
