Cognitive and affective functions associated with insomnia: a population-based study.

Insomnia affects over a third of older adults, leading to increased depressive symptoms in both sexes and apathy in males. Older females with insomnia experience significant daytime sleepiness and potential cognitive decline.

- Daytime sleepiness was significantly higher in females (especially ≥75 years), correlating with lower Trail Making Test scores in this subgroup.
