Area of Science:

  • Pathology
  • Oncology
  • Head and Neck Surgery

Background:

  • Nodular fasciitis is a benign, reactive myofibroblastic proliferation.
  • Parotid gland tumors are diverse, with epithelial neoplasms being most common.

Observation:

  • Two cases of nodular fasciitis in the parotid gland are presented.
  • Patients included a 42-year-old man and a 2 1/2-year-old boy.
  • The lesions presented as distinct masses within the parotid tissue.

Findings:

  • Clinicopathologic analysis revealed features consistent with nodular fasciitis.
  • Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies supported the diagnosis.
  • Differential diagnosis for parotid gland lesions was discussed.

Implications:

  • Highlights the importance of considering nodular fasciitis in the differential diagnosis of parotid gland masses.
  • Contributes to understanding the rare occurrence of this benign tumor in the parotid.
  • Informs diagnostic and management strategies for patients presenting with parotid gland lesions.
