Six attachment methods were tested, varying case use, monitor position, and tightness.

The effect of leash attachment to the accelerometer collar was specifically assessed.

Main Results:

Excellent correlation was observed between monitors on separate collars when the leash was attached to a harness.
Poor correlations occurred when the leash attached to the monitor's collar, a monitor was in a case, or loosely attached.
These attachment methods showed statistically significant differences in correlation compared to separate collars.

Conclusions:

Accelerometer-based activity monitors are valuable for objective canine activity assessment.
Careful consideration of attachment methods is essential for data integrity.
Recommend using a dedicated collar for the monitor, separate from leash attachment, and maintaining consistent attachment.
