Granuloma Inguinale Simulating Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

    Summary

    A rare case of granuloma inguinale mimicking squamous cell carcinoma was reported. Prompt treatment with streptomycin led to rapid ulcer healing, highlighting effective management strategies for this infection.

    Background:

    • Granuloma inguinale (donovanosis) is a chronic bacterial infection.
    • It can present with extensive ulcerative lesions that may mimic malignancy.
    • A history of urethritis and fistula formation was noted in this patient.

    Observation:

    • The patient presented with extensive granuloma inguinale lesions.
    • The lesions were clinically suggestive of squamous cell carcinoma.
    • Associated conditions included scabies and reactive VDRL (syphilis).

    Findings:

    • Streptomycin therapy resulted in near-complete healing of the ulcer within 19 days.
    • The VDRL test indicated a reactive result (1:8 dilution), suggesting possible latent syphilis.
