Rapidly dividing tumors, embryos, and wounded tissues require more oxygen than usual, lowering the oxygen concentration in the blood. Background:

  • Angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels, is a critical process during embryonic development.
  • Natriuretic peptide precursor C (nppc) is a gene involved in various physiological processes, but its role in embryonic angiogenesis requires further elucidation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression pattern of the nppc gene during zebrafish embryogenesis.
  • To determine the function of nppc in regulating angiogenesis in zebrafish embryos.

Main Methods:

  • Whole mount in situ hybridization was used to visualize nppc gene expression.
  • Morpholino-induced gene knockdown and mRNA-mediated gene rescue were employed to manipulate nppc levels.
  • Transgenic zebrafish lines (Tg (flk1:GFP) and Tg (fli1a:nGFP)) were utilized to observe vasculature.
  • Laser scanning confocal microscopy was performed for detailed morphological analysis of intersegmental vessels (ISV).
