Gingival Fibrosarcoma in a Horse.

Background:

• A 4-year-old thoroughbred cross mare presented with a buccal gingival margin tumor.
• Initial diagnosis was fibrosarcoma via histopathology.

Observation:

• The tumor recurred after initial surgical excision.
• Multiple treatments included surgical resection and intralesional cisplatin chemotherapy over 14 weeks.

Findings:

• Despite initial poor response, no further tumor regrowth was observed 3 months post-treatment.
• The horse remained tumor-free for nearly 5 years.

Implications:

• Intralesional cisplatin chemotherapy combined with surgery can be effective for equine fibrosarcoma.
• This case highlights the potential for long-term remission in challenging oral tumors.
