Purpose:

  • To examine ophthalmologic findings in HIV-infected patients
  • Assess the correlation between ocular involvement and AIDS progression
  • Discuss the significance and management of ocular manifestations

Summary:

  • 57% of 30 HIV patients showed ocular involvement.
  • 94% of those with ocular findings had advanced Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
  • Common findings included microvascular retinal syndrome, infectious chorioretinitis (CMV, Cryptococcus), and Kaposi's sarcoma.

Impact:

  • Ocular involvement serves as a critical indicator of poor prognosis in HIV/AIDS.
  • Highlights the need for comprehensive ophthalmologic evaluation in HIV care.
