Findings at the first three necropsies after liver transplantation in Hungary

Three necropsied cases died after liver transplantation are reported. In two of them circulatory failure of the liver, due to arterial occlusion in one case and to profuse bleeding in the other, led to functional insufficiency of the liver. In one case a chronic rejection reaction occurred. Two patients surviving for 38 days and for two months, respectively, acquired cytomegalovirus infection. The significance and prognostic value of the bile duct changes in the rejection reaction are emphasized.
