Rowatinex, a plant-derived medication, improved stone fragment clearance after extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) by increasing diuresis and stabilizing urine pH. This reduces the risk of recurrent urolithiasis.
Area of Science:
- Urology
- Pharmacology
- Nephrology
Background:
- Urolithiasis necessitates drug therapy for metabolic abnormalities.
- Plant-derived medications are crucial for treating and preventing urolithiasis.
- Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a common treatment for kidney stones.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the efficacy of Rowatinex in urolithiasis patients post-ESWL.
- To analyze blood and urine parameter changes with Rowatinex treatment.
- To assess Rowatinex's role in preventing recurrent stone formation.
Main Methods:
- Patients were divided into two groups post-ESWL.
- Group A (n=107) received Rowatinex.
- Group B (n=50) received antispasmodic drugs.
Main Results:
- 71.1% of patients receiving Rowatinex achieved stone fragment clearance within 1-5 days, compared to 40.4% in the control group.
- Rowatinex increased diuresis and stabilized urine pH (6.2-6.8), crucial for metaphylaxis.
- Leukocyturia decreased in both groups, with notable urine pH stabilization in the Rowatinex group.
Conclusions:
- Rowatinex enhances stone fragment clearance post-ESWL and reduces pain.
- It effectively reduces leukocyturia, increases diuresis, and stabilizes urine pH.
- Rowatinex is safe for long-term use and aids in preventing recurrent urolithiasis.
