The NOD-like receptor family CARD domain-containing protein 5 (NLRC5) regulates immune responses beyond MHC class I genes. This review critically discusses its emerging roles in human and murine innate immunity and cancer.
Area of Science:
- Immunology
- Molecular Biology
- Cellular Biology
Background:
- NOD-like receptor family CARD domain-containing protein 5 (NLRC5) is a transcriptional activator of MHC class I genes.
- Emerging evidence suggests NLRC5 participates in innate and adaptive immune responses beyond MHC class I regulation.
- Previous studies indicate NLRC5 involvement in inflammatory and type I interferon responses in human and murine cells.
Purpose of the Study:
- To critically discuss the experimental data on the biological functions of NLRC5 in innate immune responses.
- To clarify the multifaceted roles of NLRC5 in human and murine systems.
- To enhance understanding of NLRC5's contribution to immune responses and cancer.
Main Methods:
- Comprehensive review and critical analysis of existing experimental data.
- Discussion of studies investigating NLRC5 in human and murine cellular models.
- Evaluation of evidence related to NLRC5's role in inflammatory and interferon responses.
Main Results:
- NLRC5 exhibits functions beyond MHC class I transcriptional activation.
- Discrepancies in reported data highlight the need for further clarification of NLRC5's roles.
- Evidence supports NLRC5's involvement in inflammatory and type I interferon pathways.
Conclusions:
- The precise biological functions of NLRC5 in innate immunity require further elucidation.
- A deeper understanding of NLRC5's diverse roles is crucial for defining its impact on immunity and cancer.
- Critical evaluation of current data is essential for advancing research on NLRC5.
