Background:

  • Autoimmune inner ear disease (AIED) presents as fluctuating bilateral sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the utility of home audiometry for monitoring hearing fluctuations in a pediatric patient with severe AIED.
  • To evaluate the correlation between home-based and clinical audiometric measurements.

Main Methods:

  • A pediatric patient with severe AIED underwent home audiometry using Shoebox Audiometry over nine months.
  • Clinical audiograms were performed concurrently, and data was analyzed for correlation (Pearson coefficient) and fluctuation patterns.

  • Sixty-four home audiograms revealed significant hearing variability (Pure Tone Average [PTA] from 12 dB to 72 dB).
