Background:

Hip fracture care significantly impacts patient quality of life.
Healthcare legislation incentivizes improved quality, cost reduction, and efficiency.
Hospital-physician alignment models are being explored to meet these demands.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate hospital-physician alignment models in hip fracture care.
To describe principles of comanagement in healthcare settings.
To demonstrate the effects of a comanagement model on an integrated hip fracture care pathway.

Main Methods:

A comanagement team was established at an academic trauma center.
An integrated care pathway for hip fracture service line was developed.
Internal data review compared pre- and post-implementation hip fracture cases.

Main Results:

The post-implementation group showed improved observational care.
Resource utilization was reduced in the post-implementation group.
The comanagement model positively impacted postoperative outcomes and resource management.

Conclusions:

The comanagement model is effective for improving hip fracture care quality.
This integrated pathway enhances healthcare efficiency and resource utilization.
Recommendations can be extrapolated to other service lines nationally.
