Distribution of caloric densities among larvae feeding on black cherry tree leaves

Caloric densities (x=5795 cal g^-1) of terminal lepidopteran larvae reared under constant conditions and fed excised leaves of black cherry were normally distributed. These data along with data reported in the literature suggest that while adaptive strategies are related to different energy storing tactics, no general hypothesis is applicable to insects.
