Trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides) clones vary in nutrient content, impacting herbivores. While most clones offer adequate minerals, protein and phosphorus can be limiting for deer and elk.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess spatial variation in nutrient and quality within and among 24 trembling aspen clones.
  • To evaluate these variations concerning the nutritional needs of cervids (Cervus elaphus and Odocoileus hemionus).

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of nutrient concentrations and chemical components across 24 trembling aspen clones.
  • Comparison of chemical profiles with established cervid nutritional requirements.

  • Significant differences in chemical components were observed between clones.
