Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the long-term kidney function in kidney donors who are carriers of the MEFV gene.
  • To compare outcomes between MEFV gene carriers and non-carrier donors.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective study comparing 12 asymptomatic MEFV gene carriers with 24 control donors.
  • Analysis of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and 24-hour urine proteinuria.
  • Medium- to long-term follow-up of kidney function post-donation.

  • No significant differences in preoperative eGFR or proteinuria between groups.
  • Similar eGFRs at 4-year follow-up.
