  • 132 women (40-78 years) without cancer history received personalized or non-personalized breast cancer risk information.
  • Assessed risk perceptions, physical activity intentions, self-efficacy, and response efficacy.

Main Results:

  • Personalized information significantly increased intentions, self-efficacy, and response efficacy (P<0.05).
  • Self-efficacy and response efficacy mediated the impact of personalization on intentions.
  • Personalized information partially corrected inaccurate risk perceptions, but acceptance was limited.

Conclusions:

  • Internet-based risk assessment tools positively influence social-cognitive precursors for behavior change.
  • Addressing lingering skepticism is necessary to maximize the potential of these digital health tools.
