Root canal preparation using Reciproc or Mtwo instruments showed similar outcomes in volume and uninstrumented surfaces. However, using two Mtwo instruments resulted in less debris in the middle third of oval canals.

  • Micro-computed tomography (SkyScan 1176) was used to analyze canal volume, debris, and uninstrumented surfaces before and after preparation.
  • Statistical analysis included ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis tests.

Main Results:

  • Both Reciproc and Mtwo systems demonstrated similar increases in canal volume and uninstrumented surface area.
  • The use of two Mtwo instruments (sizes 20 and 40) resulted in significantly less debris in the middle third compared to single instrument use (0.56% vs. 1.31-1.54%).

Conclusions:

  • Conventional reciprocation (R40) and clockwise reciprocation (Mtwo) yield comparable root canal preparations in terms of volume and surface instrumentation.
