Background:

  • Adenoid cystic carcinoma (ACC) is a rare malignancy that can occur in various glandular tissues.
  • Ceruminous glands, located in the external auditory meatus, are apocrine glands responsible for producing earwax.
  • ACC of the ceruminous glands is exceptionally rare, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

  • A case of adenoid cystic carcinoma originating from a ceruminous gland within the external auditory meatus is described.
  • The tumor presented as a localized lesion within the ear canal.
  • Clinical and histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of ACC.

Findings:

  • The adenoid cystic carcinoma exhibited characteristic histopathological features.
  • Complete local excision of the tumor was performed.
  • Post-operative follow-up indicated successful removal of the malignancy.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering rare malignancies in the differential diagnosis of external auditory meatus lesions.
  • Local excision can be an effective treatment modality for early-stage ceruminous gland ACC.
  • Further research into the behavior and optimal management of this rare tumor is warranted.
