Background:

Social capital is crucial for maternal well-being.
Existing scales may not capture the unique needs of primiparas.
A culturally relevant measure for Chinese first-time mothers is needed.

Purpose of the Study:

To develop and validate the Chinese primipara social capital scale (C-PSCS).
To assess the reliability and validity of the C-PSCS for Chinese primiparas.

Main Methods:

Scale items adapted from World Bank and Social Network scales.
Expert review and two rounds of seminars for content and cultural adaptation.
Purposive sampling of 1,100 primiparas in their third trimester.
Content, construct, and discriminant validity analyses.
Cronbach's alpha and split-half reliability tests.

Main Results:

1,035 questionnaires were completed (94.09% response rate).
The C-PSCS demonstrated good construct validity (cumulative variance 52.92%-69.37%) and content validity (r=0.57-0.81, P<0.01).
Excellent discriminant validity was found (t-values -24.23 to -9.24, P<0.001).
Cronbach's alpha (0.76-0.86) and split-half reliability (0.68-0.84) indicated high internal consistency.

Conclusions:

The C-PSCS is a valid and reliable instrument.
It can be effectively used to evaluate the social capital of Chinese primiparas.
This scale contributes to understanding maternal social support in China.
