Summary

Small cell lung cancer can cause mania through ectopic adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) production. This case highlights the link between ACTH excess and manic syndromes.

Background:

Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) is a rare but aggressive form of lung cancer.
Ectopic hormone production is a known paraneoplastic syndrome associated with SCLC.
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) excess can lead to Cushing's syndrome and psychiatric manifestations.
