Summary

Vitrification of mature oocytes (M-II) yields better outcomes than immature oocytes (GV). Freezing technology significantly improves oocyte survival and pregnancy rates, comparable to fresh oocytes.

Area of Science:

  • Reproductive biology
  • Cryobiology
  • In vitro maturation (IVM)

Background:

  • Oocyte cryopreservation, particularly vitrification, has advanced significantly.
  • Current techniques offer survival and pregnancy rates comparable to fresh oocytes.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical outcomes of vitrifying oocytes at different maturation stages.
  • To determine the optimal stage for oocyte vitrification following in vitro maturation (IVM).

Main Methods:

  • Vitrification of oocytes at the germinal vesicle (GV) stage versus the mature metaphase II (M-II) stage.
  • Comparison of survival and clinical outcomes post-warming.

Main Results:

  • Vitrification of mature M-II oocytes results in superior clinical outcomes compared to vitrifying immature GV oocytes.
Keywords:

Related Experiment Videos

  • Immature oocytes vitrified at the GV stage show reduced potential for subsequent maturation.
  • Conclusions:

    • Oocyte vitrification is most effective when performed at the mature M-II stage after in vitro maturation (IVM).
    • Vitrifying immature oocytes at the GV stage compromises their developmental potential and clinical success.
