Background:

Scleromyxoedema is a chronic, progressive skin disease in humans characterized by mucin deposits, fibroblast proliferation, and fibrosis, often accompanied by systemic illness but typically lacking thyroid disease.
Veterinary literature on scleromyxoedema is scarce, with only one prior feline report and one canine case previously misclassified.

Observation:

A nine-year-old English springer spaniel presented with generalized papules and nodules on the body and proximal limbs, with larger nodules being erythematous.
The dog also exhibited concurrent osteoarthritis, generalized weakness, and ultimately declined in health.

Findings:

Histopathological evaluation revealed the classic triad of mucin deposition, fibroblast proliferation, and fibrosis, consistent with human scleromyxoedema.
Unlike typical human cases, this dog lacked thyroid disease and monoclonal gammopathy.

Implications:

This case documents scleromyxoedema in a dog, demonstrating significant morbidity and mirroring features of the human condition.
Accurate diagnosis relies on recognizing characteristic histopathology, and systemic evaluation is crucial for identifying comorbidities that impact prognosis.
