Cariogenic properties of Streptococcus mutans clinical isolates with sortase defects

Sortase-defective Streptococcus mutans clinical isolates show reduced biofilm formation and adhesion, indicating lower cariogenic potential. However, harboring these defective bacteria does not guarantee a low risk of dental caries in humans.
