    Summary

    A young cadet experienced persistent lower back pain after lifting weights. Further examination revealed an extradural cystic lesion, a rare cause of such symptoms.

    Background:

    • Lower back pain is a common complaint in young, active individuals.
    • Dumbbell use can precipitate or exacerbate spinal conditions.

    Observation:

    • A 21-year-old male military cadet presented with worsening lower back pain.
    • Symptoms persisted for 2 months following a weightlifting incident.

    Findings:

    • Physical therapy evaluation led to radiographic imaging.
    • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) identified an extradural cystic lesion.

    Implications:

    • Extradural cystic lesions are an uncommon but significant differential diagnosis for activity-related lower back pain.
    • Early and accurate diagnosis through advanced imaging is crucial for appropriate management.
