Summary

Autonomously functioning thyroid nodules (AFTN) show increased cyclic AMP release and preferential thyroxine (T4) secretion compared to perinodular (PN) tissue. The adenylate cyclase-cyclic AMP system in AFTN is more sensitive to thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).
