[A case of juvenile polyp in an elderly person with hepatocellular carcinoma]

A rare case of a juvenile polyp in association with a hepatocellular carcinoma in a 57-year-old male is reported. Both diseases were discovered after admission to hospital because of chronic active hepatitis. A liver biopsy revealed the presence of a trabecular type of differentiated carcinoma. Then, upon colonic fiberscopy, a solitary small pedunculated polyp was detected in the rectosigmoid region. Histologically, the lesion was found to be a typical juvenile one, and composed of cystic dilatations of some glands, including somewhat hyperplastic glands and a wide stroma consisting of chronic inflammatory granulation. The possible histogenesis of this observed polyp in an elderly person also is discussed.
