Purpose of the Study:

  • To present a Web-based graphical food frequency assessment system.
  • To address challenges including reproducibility, scalability, mobile-friendliness, security, and usability.
  • To report utilization metrics and user feedback from a deployment study.

Main Methods:

  • Developed a single-page application using Bootstrap and Google Firebase for backend services.
  • Deployed the EatWellQ8 FFQ (146 items) in Kuwait, collecting data from 235 participants.
  • Measured usability via the System Usability Scale (SUS) and completion time via browser timestamps.

Main Results:

  • 163 participants completed the FFQ, with a mean completion time of 14.2 minutes.
  • The median System Usability Scale (SUS) score was 75.0, with 84% rating the system as 'good' or 'excellent'.
  • Mobile device users showed usability scores comparable to desktop/laptop users, with no significant differences across demographics.

Conclusions:

  • The developed online FFQ system demonstrates good user acceptance and usability, meeting key requirements.
