Background:

Prenatal sex hormones may influence sex differences in pain perception.
Digit ratio (2D:4D) serves as a proxy for prenatal hormone exposure.
The link between prenatal hormones and adult pain sensitivity requires further investigation.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the correlation between the 2D:4D ratio and postoperative pain perception.
To explore the influence of prenatal hormone exposure on pain sensitivity after rhinoplasty.

Main Methods:

A prospective cohort study of 100 patients (50 women, 50 men) undergoing rhinoplasty.
Measurements included digit lengths (for 2D:4D ratio), alongside standard anthropometrics.
Postoperative pain was assessed using Visual Analog Scales (VAS) at multiple time points (1h, 6h, 12h, 24h, 48h).

Main Results:

Women with a low 2D:4D ratio reported significantly higher pain at 1h and 48h post-operation.
In men, a low 2D:4D ratio was associated with lower postoperative pain at 12h.
Specific correlations were observed between digit ratio and pain intensity in both sexes.

Conclusions:

Low 2D:4D in women is linked to increased postoperative pain.
Low right 2D:4D in men is associated with decreased postoperative pain.
Findings suggest intrauterine estrogen exposure may enhance pain resistance in women.
