Skin Cancer

Skin cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when there is an abnormal growth of skin cells, usually triggered by damage to the DNA within the skin cells. Summary

Primary cavernous sinus melanoma is a rare tumor. Cross-sectional imaging can help diagnose these lesions, but atypical presentations with hemorrhage and cystic degeneration pose diagnostic challenges.

Background:

Primary melanoma of the cavernous sinus is exceedingly rare, with limited documented cases.
The cavernous sinus harbors critical neurovascular structures, making its mass lesions a broad differential diagnosis.
Lesions can be vascular, neoplastic, infectious, or infiltrative, originating within or extending into the sinus.

Purpose of the Study:

To present the cross-sectional imaging findings of a rare primary cavernous sinus melanoma.
To highlight the diagnostic challenges associated with atypical presentations of this rare tumor.

Review of cross-sectional imaging (CT/MRI) findings in a case of primary cavernous sinus melanoma.
Discussion of the differential diagnosis for cavernous sinus masses based on imaging characteristics.
