Area of Science:

  • Reproductive Medicine
  • Gynecologic Surgery

Background:

  • Interstitial pregnancy poses significant risks due to its location in the Fallopian tube's myometrial segment.
  • The highly vascular nature of this area increases the potential for life-threatening hemorrhage upon rupture.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review treatment modalities for interstitial pregnancy.
  • To evaluate the outcomes of conservative, medical, and surgical interventions.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of four cases of interstitial pregnancy over five years.
  • Treatment strategies included single-dose methotrexate, laparotomy, hysteroscopy with vacuum aspiration, and laparoscopy-assisted vacuum aspiration.

Main Results:

  • All four patients achieved successful outcomes with their respective treatments.
  • Individualized treatment selection was based on patient characteristics.

Conclusions:

  • Single-dose methotrexate is a viable option for select interstitial pregnancy cases meeting specific criteria.
  • Cornual wedge resection remains crucial for ruptured interstitial pregnancies.
  • Minimally invasive approaches like hysteroscopy and laparoscopy-assisted vacuum aspiration offer alternatives for suitable candidates.
