Area of Science:

  • Pediatric Oncology
  • Thoracic Surgery

Background:

  • Pulmonary blastoma is an exceptionally rare malignant lung neoplasm.
  • Neonatal presentation of pulmonary blastoma is exceedingly uncommon.

Observation:

  • A case of pulmonary blastoma in a neonate is presented.
  • This represents the second documented case in English medical literature.

Findings:

  • The neonate diagnosed with pulmonary blastoma underwent successful surgical excision.
  • Post-operative outcomes were favorable following the intervention.

Implications:

  • Highlights the rarity of neonatal pulmonary blastoma.
  • Emphasizes surgical resection as a primary treatment modality.
  • Suggests the need for increased awareness and potential for early diagnosis in neonates.
